Background:This gene encodes a member of the biopterin-dependent aromatic amino acid hydroJNClase protein family. The encoded phenylalanine hydroJNClase enzyme hydroJNClates phenylalanine to tyrosine and is the rate-limiting step in phenylalanine catabolism.
